ABIT BE7G Memory FAQ

What is DDR?

DDR stands for Double Data Rate and is an enhanced type of memory which allows data to be read on both the rising and the falling edge of the clock. It basically delivers more data in less time than the previous memory technologies. The ABIT BE7G uses DDR memory only.

What does PC2100 and PC2700 mean?

The number is the throughput speed of the memory in megabytes per second. The speed you need depends on what the installed CPU supports. You can also run faster rated memory for future upgrading or overclocking.

What does the CL number mean?

Column Address Strobe (CAS) Latency, or CL for short, specifies how many clock cycles the ABIT BE7G motherboard must wait before the memory module is ready to deliver the requested memory. The lower the CL number, the faster the access time.

However, the performance difference between CL=2 and CL=3 is so small that you will not notice any degradation in speed. Unless you are overclocking your ABIT BE7G, you do not need to worry about the CL rating. If you are overclocking, then going with a lower CL may help stabilize your ABIT BE7G motherboard.
